Debt Crunch – Some People Just Get It, Others are like me…
Another Dave Ramsey show – driving on I-95 in Maine for a couple hours today, I got to listen to Dave’s show for a bigger chunk of time than I usually do so I’m feeling pretty grounded – centered when it comes to thinking more clearly about money. It’s the clarity that amazes me – some people just GET IT and don’t have to mull it over until it’s mush (like me) but the more I listen, read and think in terms what is actually “common sense” the more I realize my thinking can be very skewed. ![]()
Today it was the caller talking about money – the difference between the woman calling and her “future husband” and their views of money. It was when Dave told the caller to picture hearing her same question come from her adult daughter… what kind of advice would she give. The caller admitted she would tell her daughter “he’s not for you.” It was clear to both the caller and Dave Ramsey that her boyfriend isn’t handling money responsibly – counseling was in order before they got married. I had agree.
When two marry, the greater the disparity between they see the world – the more conflict. When one spends and the other frets – it’s not a happy place to be. When both spends, they fall into a deep hole fast. When they both stay stuck with little income to cover bills and neither takes responsibility, stirs the fire of change – they will stay truly STUCK.
Me? I’ve spent money as others wanted me to spend it – I rarely stood my ground, until it was often to late. Money gone, bill collectors calling and THEN I say, “Why did you spend it all…” Now, I am learning to stand my ground, say “No” reinforce my “no” with my goals. I’m working for the goals, they are mine – I stand behind them.
I am learning, yep – baby steps. I’m working on a new budget based on what I’m learning.
