Top 5 Obsessions – I’ve been TAGGED!

Money Monk got tagged by Finance Girl so she spilled her guts on her top 5 obsessions then tagged me along with four other money bloggers. This scramble had Money Monk tagging me here at Crunch. So it’s my turn to share my top 5 obsessions… then, of course, I will tag five unsuspecting bloggers out in the blogosphere to do exactly the same.

My Top 5 Obsessions – logic would indicate that my top 5 obsessions would be related to money since this a blog about and money BUT it’s only bits and pieces of my life as a whole. That may be why I struggle so much – my lack of obsessive focus on all things and money. :-)

(these are in no particular order)

#1 Getting out of – which right now is a long term goal. My short term focus is to stick to my written budget, no credit card use and building my emergency fund faster than dealing with “emergencies” that come up!

#2 Losing weight and getting FIT! I have a lot of weight to lose but even MORE importantly, I want to get stronger and more fit. I’m 45, my two younger kids (out of 4) I had at 40 and 41 years old so I’ve got my work cut out for me. I have been working out at Planet Fitness 5 days a week, walking a couple days a week and have a home routine as well. It’s an obsession that is late in coming but it’s paying off! I’m thinking of doing a fitness blog for busy middle-aged moms with young kids like me.
#3 A major obsession of mine is my TV line up. :-) I have certain shows I just have to watch – The Shield (anxiously waiting for Rescue Me to come back in June!), House, The Medium, Heroes, CSI Las Vegas, Old Christine New Christine, The Office, Workout, Battle Star Galactica (waiting for the next season!) and Law & Order: Criminal Intent with Vincent Dinofrio. Plus a wide array of HGTV shows! The good news is I only have an hour – two hours tops each day to watch TV so I pick carefully!

#4 My Children – I have four children – two boys that live at home and two young adult daughters. They aren’t #4 in my life, in fact they are first is most every aspect of my life but I’m working on not obsessing on them all the time. I’m learning I don’t have to do absolutely everything for them and that it’s ok to take some time for myself (that’s my time at the gym and my TV time when they are sleeping). I’ve been a mom for 21 years and will be raising these boys for another 13 years at home. Maybe longer as one of my boys has significant developmental issues – similar to autism.
That means when the youngest turns 18 I will be 58. To be actively raising kids from the time I was 25 to the age of 58 means very little time for my dreams. I don’t want to wait that long before I have at least a bit of “stuff” that is just MINE. :-)

#5 Writing - writing and “thinking” of writing… short stories, memories, maybe a novel some day. I’m less sure of how to share that obsession but it’s there with me every day. More on that in the future…
